Installing your wine cabinet : everything you need to know about the best locations.
Choosing the right location for your wine cabinet : our advice to ensure proper preservation.
Kitchen, basement, garage or dining room, it can be difficult to know where to install your wine cabinet. You should avoid heat sources as well as direct light. Vibrations and confined spaces are also not recommended. Here are the six elements to consider when finding the best location for installing your wine cabinet.
The temperature around the wine cabinet.
Finding the best place to install your wine cabinet starts with the room temperature. Too often overlooked, the ambient temperature of the room, as well as that of elements in the immediate vicinity of the wine cabinet, play a determining role. Sudden temperature variations must be avoided. Installing your wine cabinet near an oven, radiator, fireplace or sun-exposed window is strongly discouraged. These heat sources can disrupt the proper functioning of the appliance. Conversely, an environment that is too cold or poorly insulated can also be harmful. For example, an unheated garage or a damp laundry room are not suitable. The ideal location is a room with a stable temperature, protected from seasonal variations and excessive heat or cold.
The recommended ambient temperatures provided by manufacturers for optimal operation vary significantly from one wine cabinet model to another. Before purchasing, it is therefore essential to check the technical performance of the cabinet : does it display the actual internal temperature or only the programmed temperature? Is it capable of producing cooling as well as heating?
Some cabinets, such as those from EuroCave, are equipped with a frost protection safety feature, allowing installation in a garage or an unheated room.
When making your choice, remember to consult the technical documentation of the selected cabinet, or seek advice from a sales consultant in store, or customer service in the case of an online purchase.
Keep your wine cabinet away from household vibrations.
We rarely think about it, but vibrations are wine’s silent enemy. They disrupt the aging process and can disturb natural sedimentation. To install your wine cabinet properly, it is essential to choose a location away from vibration sources, even minor ones.
Avoid placing it in close proximity to household appliances such as a washing machine or a standard refrigerator. These appliances generate regular micro-vibrations, invisible to the naked eye, but harmful in the long term. Also consider external vibration sources : nearby subway lines or railway tracks can affect bottle stability. Ideally, choose a quiet space, away from mechanical activity or heavy traffic.
Installing a wine cabinet and humidity levels.
When installing your wine cabinet, humidity plays an essential role in proper bottle preservation. Air that is too dry dries out corks, promoting oxidation. Conversely, excessive humidity can lead to mold and label deterioration. The ideal humidity level is around 70 %.
To achieve this, it is recommended to choose a cabinet equipped with a humidity display or, for higher-performance models, an automatic regulation system, such as the EuroCave Royale wine cabinet. Some cabinets also include an alert in case of abnormal variation, allowing you to react quickly and preserve the quality of your wine over time.
Should the wine cabinet location be well lit?
Does your kitchen or dining room have large windows? Is your home filled with natural light? You will need to be vigilant when installing your wine cabinet. Prolonged exposure to natural or artificial light degrades the wine’s tannins.
Choose a location without direct exposure to sunlight. To protect your bottles, at EuroCave we have developed wine cabinets with UV-treated glass doors.
Air circulation and installing a wine cabinet.
When installing your wine cabinet, it is essential to allow sufficient space at the back and on the sides of the appliance. This space enables optimal air circulation, which is necessary for proper ventilation system performance. If air cannot circulate freely, the cabinet may overheat, disrupting temperature and humidity regulation. Never build in a wine cabinet that is not designed for that purpose, and never place it flush against a wall or confine it inside a closed piece of furniture without ventilation. For integrated installation, choose a built-in wine cabinet or a front-vented model designed for this configuration.
A wine cabinet, a decorative and practical asset in the home.
Today, the wine cabinet is no longer hidden away. It becomes a true decorative feature while ensuring optimal preservation of your bottles. Small space, corner area, attic slope or low ceiling, there is a wine cabinet model suited to your interior space. Designer, compact or built-in, it integrates harmoniously into your kitchen, living room or even custom cabinetry. Choose a wine cabinet that complements your décor and interior layout.
Installing your wine cabinet is much more than a simple matter of space.
It means guaranteeing your bottles the conditions needed to reveal their full potential. Temperature, humidity, light, vibrations, ventilation : every detail matters to ensure proper preservation of your wines. EuroCave wine cabinets meet all of these requirements, offering you an optimal wine tasting experience.
